Why do people put up with bad service and why we need to reward great service ?

How often do we get great service in our daily journey ? When I get very good service , it is a time to celebrate . I think that our children should be toughed to be the best at what they are doing . I presented to a high school grade 11 class and spoke to them about how important they are businesses that they may be working for . The students eyes were wide open and I could see them sit up in their seats  .Going a extra mile for a client should be the norm and not a exception . The business that have figured out this fact will never be short of clients as well they will have a healthy bottom line .

Celebrate great service and thank the next person that provides it to you .!

Building strong relationships !

Over the last 27 years in business , I have managed to develop strong relationships with my clients . I could not have picked a better career for me and let me tell you why . I meet all kinds of people during my daily travels ; doctors , lawyers , entrepreneurs . artists , executives from many industries . When I look back , I am truly privileged to served industry leaders as well as every day people and it has been a rush . My clients say that they think of me as a go to guy . Tell me what you need and I will look to find someone who can help you . My greatest pleasure is building my contact base while I am working to serve the clients.I look to connect my contacts to each other and in this way continue the growth of contacts while strengthening the relationship already in place . Being a trusted adviser is a blast because that is what I aspire to and helping my clients is easier through established relationships.

Why do we work such long hours, when is it enough ?

There are many people that are putting in long hours and I wonder how effective we really are in our work . After being forced to slow down at work , I was able to look at what can be achieved in less working hours . I was not able to have 5 or 6 meetings a day anymore and I was pleasantly surprised .I was less stressed , I could give greater focus to the meeting and I also felt that I was not rushed . I am now convinced that 12 hour days do not give me maximum return for my time invested . Slow down and as they say smell the roses .

Networking , what is that ?

I want to build a strong network of people to help myself , my clients and my community . People sometimes confuse what networking is and think it is going to a breakfast meeting to distribute as well as get the most business cards possible . There are numerous methods to developing a strong network and they all work to a certain degree . My idea of networking is to look at opportunities to help people connect with others that can help them solve their needs . Having a network of people I can trust to help individuals that I introduce to them is worth gold to me . Often , people will ask me if I know somebody and when I am able to make the connection for them it makes me happy . David Perry asked me how he can help me and my response was " introduce me to people i do not yet know". I have been told that I should charge for all the work I do to enable people to meet as well as do business together but I will not . The service I provide is well beyond selling a product and it is  my core business which enables me to network with people . I am careful to introduce only those individuals which will deliver on their commitment . We all have a network but sometimes do not call it that by name !

Young generation and instant gratification

I have been coaching football for many years and I see a huge change in athletes of today . The biggest is the need for instant success and not without a lot of work . Coaching good athletes can be rewarding and challenging . The team I coach now is comprised of all star players across Ottawa . They were all good players for their own teams that they came from and now they are surrounded by other also very good athletes . This year we had more players quit then ever before . Sure they give you excuses but I know the problem exists in that they no longer get all the playing time . Some of the young men will fight to earn a starting spot while others make excuses to quit . Sports prepare us for life , we do need to give our best and sometimes face adversity however quiting on ourselves is not a option.

Unfortunately , the number of insurers that offer this product is still limited but with aging population this will change .
