Football is the greatest game and it has many things in common to running a business !

As a former player of a number of sports , I find football to be one of great intrigue . In the Canadian game , we have 12 players that have to work in conjunction with each other to complete a play . The team is only as good as your weakest link . On one play , everyone is expected to execute their role to ensure a positive outcome . Like anything else , there is luck or chance involved in this game . The more a team prepares the " LUCKIER " they get . As a coach , my role is to get the best players on the field , get them playing the right position and yes CUT or RELEASE the ones that do not make the grade . Remember the business book " Good to Great " by Jim Collins . Execution is the key that any business or football team must have . Picking team members is crucial and not just lone wolfs that may be in the game for only themselves . Pick your team carefully so that you do not encounter hardships and fail to WIN . Why are people scared of sales people ?

Recently a new client asked me if I knew anyone that could help his friend with his investment advice . The friend is working with a financial advisor who is outside Ottawa and this individual is feeling that his advisor is not giving him the advice he needs . The friend is concerned in meeting a new advisor and being pushed to switch his portfolio to new advisor . Just because we are in sales does not mean that we are sharkds and will force you to make a decission you do not want . We get paid commission but we give exceptional value so what do you care how I get paid as long as you are getting proper value . Sales PROFESSIONALS are out there but you need to find them and trust them to guide you . Ask for introductions and referrals !

Taking care of you !

As a busy person you are dealing with a number of items that always take precedence over your personal needs . When was the last time you just blew off a few hours to do something for yourself ? We have made our blackberry's our masters and our companions . Often you can people in restaurants text messaging and emailing . When do we just say stop this insanity . We can not even enjoy a meal without the vibrating or worst yet ringing phone . At university I remember doing a research paper about what people will do with all the time on their hand that was going to be created by computers helping us to be more efficient . HA ! What extra time ? Stop the insanity and take care of you before you have no choice but to slow down .

Relationships are built over time , good service or loyalty ?

How many times do we obtain services from people we know ? A speaker at an event couple of weeks a go asked " would you rather have satisfied or loyal clients ?" . Loyal clients are built with strong relationships and by the way , those are the type of clients you should strive for . In order to build strong relationships , look at what you can do for a client and not what he or she can do for you . It feels great to be able to help a person get ahead in life even though it has nothing to do with your product . Never stop giving and you will never be forgotten !!!!!!
