I meet people who say to me " I would make a great person because I can talk to anyone " . Yes they may be able to do that but there is much more to being a sales professional . I believe for a person to be a success in sales they need to want to win . They also need to be able to establish solid relationships . Unfortunately , not many sales people have a business plan for themselves . Resilience is very important trait to thrive in a sales environment . Finding good young sales people is not a easy task as there are things they need to learn and sometimes they are not patient to work at it . As a professional advisor I get asked to wear many hats : psychologist , marriage councilor , spiritual councilor , coach , lawyer , accountant , connector , financial advisor , deal maker and this is only a few of my roles . I think being a PROFESSIONAL sales person is a noble calling as it touches many people and gives value to all you serve !
I believe sales is a noble profession which sometimes does not get the recognition it deserves because barriers to entry are not like going to say law school . Also , some sales people are not treating the job as professionals and choose to flog a product . Many of the professional sales people are highly educated and continue to upgrade their knowledge in areas beyond simply selling a product . In sales there comes a time that you chose the do what it takes to be a professional or be a product peddler . You can make money in being a peddler but it is in my opinion it is never as rewarding as choosing to be a trusted professional advisor .
